Utica field hockey dominates in 8-0 win over Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Preseason ranked #24 Utica College field hockey dominated the field Friday night with five players posting tallies, as they recorded an 8-0 victory over host Morrisville State College on Drake Field in Morrisville.

Junior forward Hannah Mackey (Locke, N.Y.) led the way for the Pioneers with three scores, with teammate Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, Pa.) chipping in two.

Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, N.Y.), Emily Gascon (Chenango Forks, N.Y.) and Angela Charles (Liverpool, N.Y.) rounded out scoring with one each.

Kells Casey (Sandwich, Mass.) posted the win, appearing in the first half, before being relieved by Olivia Cunningham (Bethlehem, NH) for the next 21:36. Caitlyn Strapach (Union Springs, N.Y.) posted the lone save, turning away one in the final 13:24 of play.

Morrisville State's Nicole Gregg (Whitney Point, N.Y.) posted the loss in net, making 14 saves in the opening 48:33, before being replaced by Meaghan Mack (Endicott, N.Y.) for the final 22 minutes.

Utica posted the first goal of the night just over two minutes into the contest, as Mackey tipped in a Gascon shot that rebounded off the pads of Gregg.

A two goal rally within a six minute span gave the Pioneers a commanding 3-0 lead that grew to five at the break.

Utica added three more in the second half, two off corner play opportunities, as they collected the non-conference win.

The Pioneers out shot Morrisville State 41-3, and held the 13-3 advantage in penalty corners on the night.

Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Ithaca College at 1 p.m. Utica faces preseason #20 ranked University of Rochester on Sunday.
