Morrisville State dominate in 5-1 win over Cobleskill

Box Score

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's soccer team posted a 5-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting SUNY Cobleskill Saturday evening despite constant rain and at times, downpour conditions.

The win lifts the Mustangs to 4-2-1, 1-0-1 in conference action, while Cobleskill has yet to notch one in the win column, falling to 0-5-0 (0-3-0 NEAC) overall.

Five different Morrisville State posted tallies on the day, including Bryant Loomis (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) who tallied the eventual game winner along with an assist in the contest.

Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) recorded the win in net for the Mustangs, appearing for the opening 62 minutes, before being relieved by Eric Berglund (Elmira, N.Y.) for the final 28 minutes. Berglund recorded the lone save in the contest as Cobleskill was held to just three shots on the night.

Morrisville State from the get-go poured on the offensive attack, finally netting the first tally of the night in nearly the 10th minute. Loomis collected his own rebounded shot off the Cobleskill keeper and passed back to a wide open Nicholas Constantino (Cincinnatus, N.Y.)  who buried the one-touch for the 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later Cobleskill broke through the Mustang defense and notched the tying score, with Tyler Condame (Horseheads, N.Y.) collecting the scoring rebound off an initial shot from Schuyler Broadwell (Sprackers, N.Y.) and poking it in just inside the right post.

In the 28th minute, Loomis broke the 1-1 tie, collecting his own rebound and chipping the ball past Tucker Lewis (Greenville, N.Y.) for the one goal Morrisville State advantage.

Within minutes, Constantino played a beautiful pass from the right side of the box to a wide open Jesse Astudillo (Wheeling, Ill.) who one-timed the pass for the score in the 33rd minute.

Just over five minutes later, the Mustangs took a 4-1 lead on a pass from Alan Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) that landed on the foot of Philemon Appiah (Kumasi, Ghana) on the left side of the box.

Joe Sheehan (Liverpool, N.Y.) put the game out of reach, rifling a shot from 10 yards out that zipped just inside the crossbar.

Lewis recorded the loss for the Fighting Tigers, saving eight in 83 minutes of play. Anthony Cina (Highland, N.Y.) made one stop in the final seven.

Morrisville State returns to the field Monday, hosting Oswego State in a rescheduled match from last week's original date that was postponed due to inclement weather.
