Azzano returns to the Mustang Valley as assistant coach of the men’s ice hockey program for the 2019-20 season.
The 2014 graduate of SUNY Morrisville spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Lincoln Stars Hockey Organization, where he assisted with on ice instruction and drills as well as practice planning. Aside from his duties on the ice, he was responsible for maintaining the team budget and coordinating team travel, along with serving as coordinator for the Lincoln Stars Youth Hockey Clinics.
While with the Lincoln Stars, Azzano contributed to developing eight players that were drafted into the National Hockey League.
Prior to his work with the Lincoln Stars, Azzano spent two seasons on the bench with SUNYAC competitor SUNY Cortland, serving as assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator for the Red Dragons, along with coordinating academic efforts for the program.
Azzano got his collegiate start in coaching at SUNY Canton, where he was the assistant coach for the men’s program for the 2014-15 season, coordinating recruiting efforts, as well as having responsibility for in-game management of the defensive unit.
Azzano spent three seasons with the Mustangs as goaltender, where he was a three-time SUNYAC All-Academic Team and two-time SUNYAC Commissioner’s List recipient for excellence in academics and athletics. The Oshawa, Ontario native finished his career ranked third all-time in saves for Mustang goaltenders, also ranking seventh in saves in a single season with 490.
Active in the local hockey community, Azzano has spent the last two years as an instructor with the Salt City Prospects in Syracuse, and as an instructor/head goaltending coach with the First Shot Showcase in Oswego.
Azzano earned his bachelors of business administration from SUNY Morrisville in 2014, earning his masters of science in sports management from SUNY Cortland in 2017.
