Concussion Management

As a student-athlete at SUNY Morrisville, we require that you take a concussion education class. The point is to help educate you on the severity of concussion as well as the signs and symptoms of concussions.

SUNY Morrisville is committed to protecting the health of and providing a safe environment for each of its participating NCAA student-athletes. To this end, and in accordance with NCAA legislation, SUNY Morrisville has adopted a Concussion Safety Protocol for all NCAA student-athletes.

This protocol identifies expectations for institutional concussion management practices as they relate to (1) the definition of sport-related concussion*; (2) independent medical care*; (3) preseason education; (4) pre-participation assessment; (5) recognition and diagnosis; (6) initial suspected concussion evaluation; (7) post-concussion management; (8) return-to-learn; (9) return-to-sport; (10) limiting exposure to head trauma; and (11) written certificate of compliance signed by the athletics health care administrator.

Drug Testing
SUNY Morrisville is concerned with the health, safety and welfare of the student athletes who participate in its programs and represent the college in competitive athletics. Substance abuse is one of the most important issues facing athletics and society today. The use of illegal drugs, misuse of legal drugs and dietary supplements, use of performance-enhancing substances, use of alcohol and inappropriate use of tobacco are inconsistent with the standards expected of student-athletes at SUNY Morrisville. Substance use and abuse in sport can pose risks to a student-athlete's health/safety and negatively affect his/her academic and athletic performance. Substance use and abuse in sport may also compromise the integrity of athletic competition and the ideals of SUNY Morrisville.

Sickle Cell
Effective August 1, 2022 all student-athletes regardless of status (new, transfer or returning) will need to provide Sickle Cell Solubility Test results in order to participate in athletics. Have your physician complete the Sickle Cell Solubility Test Form (PDF) and return it to the athletic training staff as soon as possible.
