Morrisville sticks win overtime thriller over Utica

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville field hockey posted a thrilling overtime victory over visiting Utica University Wednesday evening, as they posted the golden  goal just 34 seconds into the extra frame on their home turf in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville field hockey scored the sudden victory tally a mere 34 seconds into the overtime frame Wednesday afternoon, registering a 4-3 overtime win over visiting Utica University on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville trailed 3-2 entering the fourth quarter before a sweeping score from Melissa Beaver (Granville, N.Y.) tied the contest at three with under four minutes to go.
  • Both teams battled back and forth through the closing minutes, but needed extra time to decide the winner.
  • The Mustangs took advantage of a Utica foul and Lilly Bagg (Nineveh, N.Y.) sent the ariel pass into the circle, finding the stick of Gracie Bagg (Nineveh, N.Y.) for the one-timer into the back of the cage for the win.
  • Utica took an early 2-0 lead midway through the opening quarter, netting back-to-back tallies from Gabby Chase, before Beaver posted her first of the day at the 11:21 mark to bring the Mustangs within one.
  • Forty-five seconds into the second quarter, Paige Jennings (Nineveh, N.Y.) evened the contest at two.
  • Neither team were able to muster another score until the 41:32 mark when Utica's Chase posted the hat trick performance with her third of the day.
  • Beaver countered to force the overtime period late in the fourth, netting her second of the contest, before Morrisville collected the win in the extra frame.
  • Emmaly Noeller (Canastota, N.Y.) posted four saves in the win in net, appearing for three quarters of action.
  • Jillian Buczkowski (Rome, N.Y.) finished out the final 15:34 in net, facing no shots on goal.
  • Morrisville held the 19-10 advantage in shots across the match, alongside a 13-11 advantage in penalty corners.
