Morrisville's Purchiaroni nets lone score in opening loss

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville field hockey dropped their season opener against St. Lawrence University Tuesday afternoon, allowing a four goal burst in the second quarter as the Saints posted the 6-1 victory in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting St. Lawrence University scored four times in the second quarter to hand host Morrisville field hockey a 6-1 season opening loss Tuesday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs fell behind 1-0 after the first, before a three goal burst over a five minute span in the second set them back 4-0.
  • St. Lawrence completed their first half scoring with a minute to go before the break, claiming the 5-0 lead after two.
  • The Saints posted their final score of the afternoon minutes into the third, before Morrisville put one on the board just inside the start of the fourth.
  • Gabbie Purchiaroni (East Syracuse, N.Y.) notched the first of her collegiate career at the 46:11 mark, a penalty stroke that hit on the left side of the boards to prevent the shut out.
  • Emmaly Noeller (Canastota, N.Y.) recorded the loss, turning aside four, before Jillian Buczkowski (Rome, N.Y.) finished out the second half in cage, collecting nine saves.
