MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville Director of Athletics, Matt Grawrock, has announced the appointment of
Sebastian Ragno as head coach of the men's ice hockey program entering the 2026-27 season.
"I'm excited for the future of the men's ice hockey program with Sebastian leading the way," Grawrock said.
"To have an up-and-coming coach in the hockey world in place to lead our program is fantastic for our student-athletes and the campus community. Everybody I spoke to about Sebastian was glowing in their feedback. We are excited for the vision he has for the program, and the potential he brings to our athletic department.
Ragno comes to Morrisville from Clarkson University where he served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons. Ragno assisted the Division I Golden Knights in reaching the ECAC playoffs each season, including the finals in 2024-25 as they posted a 24-win slate.
"I am honored to be named the next head men's ice hockey coach at SUNY Morrisville," Ragno said.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Matt Grawrock and the search committee for the opportunity to lead this program.
"I believe SUNY Morrisville has tremendous potential, and I am excited to build a culture centered on relationships, accountability, and development. Our goal will be to challenge student athletes to grow as leaders, competitors, and individuals both on and off the ice, while pursuing excellence in every aspect of the student-athlete experience."
During his time on the bench at Clarkson, Ragno mentored goaltender Ethan Langeegger who was named the 2024-25 ECAC Goaltender of the Year following a first team all-star selection and 22-win season in net. This past season, Ragno mentored Division III transfer Shane Soderwall to a 17-win season, claiming weekly accolades three times as the ECAC Goaltender of the Week honoree.
Prior to joining the Golden Knights, Ragno was on staff at Stonehill College for a season as an assistant coach working with forwards, goaltenders and running penalty kill situations. Ragno also had a two-year stint with Brown University, serving as the goaltending coach for the women's program, after getting a taste of Division III coaching as a goaltending coach the year prior at Trine University.
The 2018 Kent State University graduate has been active in player development since graduation, serving as the Vice President and Co-Founder of ETM Goaltending from 2018-22, the Director of Stop It Goaltending from 2022-24, a goaltending coach for Culver Academies from 2019-22 and associate head coach for the Fort Wayne Spacemen in the USPHL for a year.
Since 2022 Ragno has also served as the Associate Coach-in-Chief for USA Hockey in Rhode Island, where he has had responsibility for scheduling, organizing, promoting and administering clinics conducted as part of the Coaching Education Program.
Ragno is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach and is a Goaltending Gold Certification candidate for USA Hockey.
Ragno earned his Bachelor of Science degree in architecture from Kent State in 2018 and is currently completing degree requirements for his master's in business administration in sport leadership from Johnson & Wales University.
"I firmly believe Sebastian has a bright future coaching hockey, and I think he will absolutely push our program to a bright future as well," Grawrock said.
"His background and ability to relate to our players and recruits will help us find the next steps in the conference and take the strides to fight against some of the best teams in the country in DIII men's ice hockey.
"I look forward to watching the next steps of the program with Sebastian at the helm."
