Morrisville Battles Throughout in 19-11 Loss at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Morrisville traveled to Fredonia Wednesday afternoon where they would battle early and showed late fight, but a decisive second-quarter run by Fredonia proved to be the difference as the Mustangs fell to the Blue Devils 19-11.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville opened the scoring as Deli Vega-Haley (Worcester, N.Y.) netted the game's first goal and later added a free-position tally, while Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven, N.Y.) gave the Mustangs a brief 3-2 lead late in the quarter.
  • Fredonia responded with two goals in the final two minutes of the quarter to take a 4-3 lead advantage heading into the second.
  • The Blue Devils took control in the second, scoring four straight goals to extend its lead to 7-3 before Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) stopped the run with a free-position goal for Morrisville.
  • Despite a pair of goals from Ingersoll to keep the Mustangs within reach, Fredonia closed the half on a 3-0 run to take an 11-5 lead into the break.
  • Morrisville opened the third with back-to-back goals from Savanna Scheifla (Alden, N.Y.) and Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to 11-7.
  • Fredonia responded with a pair of goals to push the lead back to six, before Ingersoll converted a free-position attempt late in the quarter to make it 13-8 heading into the fourth.
  • The Blue Devils opened the final frame with a quick 2-0 run to extend its lead to 15-8 and later added a man-up goal to maintain control.
  • Morrisville responded with goals from Grace Loadwick (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and two tallies from Ingersoll, but Fredonia closed the game with three of the final four goals to secure the 19-11 win.
  • Ingersoll led the way for the Mustangs, scoring five goals including her 100th of her career at the 1:45 mark in the fourth quarter.
  • Vega-Haley followed with two goals, while four other Mustangs saw the back of the net.
  • Ingersoll guided the Morrisville defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) recorded five ground balls and 13 saves in the loss.
  • Fredonia's Kate O'Brien led their offense with six goals and two assists while seven other Blue Devils saw the back of the net.
  • In goal for Fredonia was Jessica Kowalski, who earned the win after saving 11 shots in 60 minutes of action.
