Strong Defensive Showing Lifts Mustangs to 8-5 Win Over Canton

CANTON, N.Y. – The Mustangs traveled to Canton Tuesday afternoon and used a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive effort, secured an 8-5 victory over the Roos.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville got on the board first with a goal from Chris Stancarone (Levittown, N.Y.) and added another late in the quarter from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.).
  • Canton answered in the final seconds to cut the deficit to 2-1 despite strong early pressure from the Mustangs.
  • The Mustangs extended their lead in the second behind goals from Chris Slade (Homer, N.Y.), Dohn, and a man-up finish from Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.), but the Roos kept the pace with three goals of their own, bringing the score to 5-4 entering the break.
  • Taylor led the charge in the third, finishing the period with three goals, helping the Mustangs build an 8-5 lead going into the final frame.
  • Both defenses tightened in the fourth as neither team found the back of the net, allowing Morrisville to maintain control and close out an 8-5 victory over Canton to secure their first SUNYAC win of the season.
  • The Mustang offense was led by Taylor, who finished with four goals, while Dohn added two.
  • Slade and Stancarone each found the back of the net, while Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) paced the team with two assists.
  • The Mustang defense was dominant, combining for 35 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
  • Goalkeeper Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) made nine saves to earn the win.
  • Jonney Mclear was the catalyst for Canton as he led the team with three goals, while Cade Fregoe led their defense with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • In goal, Hayden Todd saved 18 shots in 60 minutes of acton.
