Mustangs Fall to Cortland

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs hosted the Cortland Red Dragons Wednesday afternoon, where they would ultimately lose 34-8 after a slow start.
THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Cortland came out dominant in the opening quarter, scoring 10 of the first 11 goals and controlling possession to build a commanding lead early.
  • Morrisville showed late life with three goals in the final minutes, including a man-up score from Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) and two from Noah Taylor (East Syracuse, N.Y.)
  • Morrisville managed a lone goal from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) during a man-up opportunity, but turnovers and Cortland's relentless offense kept the Mustangs from gaining any momentum extending the lead to 24-4 entering the break.
  • The Mustangs would score once more in the third, on a goal from Landon Wakefield (Fulton, N.Y.) off a feed from Taylor, but turnovers prevented the Mustangs from gaining momentum as Cortland outscored them 4-1 in the quarter.
  • The Red Dragons closed out the game with another strong quarter, adding six goals to push their total to 34 in a dominant offensive showing.
  • Morrisville found some late offense with goals from Tedeschi and Dohn, but the deficit proved too large as Cortland controlled the tempo to seal the 34-8 victory.
  • Dohn led the Mustangs as he finished with three goals, followed by Taylor and Tedeschi who each tallied two goals apiece.
  • Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) finished with 10 saves in the first quarter for the Mustangs, while Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) played in the second and third quarters and turned away 10 shots as well.
  • Damien Warrior (Gowanda, N.Y.) ended the game in goal and ended with five saves in 15 minutes.
  • Nick Stoecker and Stefan Swedlund led the Red Dragons in scoring with six goals apiece while Sean Kavanagh added two goals and seven assists.
  • Nicky Miltenberger led Cortland's defense with seven ground balls while also winning 11 faceoffs.
  • In goal for the Red Dragons, Charlie Falowski earned the win after saving one shot in the first half.
  • Jack Lucidi, Jake Seefeldt, and Max Moran all saw action in goal in the second half for Cortland
