POTSDAM, N.Y. – Morrisville traveled to Potsdam Saturday afternoon and earned a hard-fought 15-13 victory over the Bears, using a strong second half to hold off a late push and secure the win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Potsdam struck first and built a 2-0 lead midway through the opening quarter, but Morrisville answered with a strong offensive push behind goals from Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) to even the score at 2-2.
  • After the Bears briefly regained the lead, the Mustangs closed the quarter on a 5-0 run, getting goals from Ingersoll, Trowbridge, Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.), and Deli Vega-Haley (Worcester, N.Y.) to take a 7-4 advantage into the second.
  • Morrisville continued its momentum early in the second, extending the lead to 9-4 behind goals from Ingersoll and Vega-Haley.
  • Potsdam responded with a 2-0 run midway through the quarter, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity, but the Mustang defense held firm the rest of the way to maintain a 9-6 lead at halftime.
  • Potsdam came out strong in the third, opening with a goal and later using a 3-0 run to erase Morrisville's lead and tie the game at 10-10 midway through the quarter.
  • Morrisville briefly regained control with a free-position goal from Ingersoll, but Potsdam closed the period with two late goals to even the score at 11-11 heading into the final frame.
  • The Mustangs took control to start the fourth, scoring two quick goals from Ingersoll to extend the lead to 13-11.
  • Potsdam continued to battle back, cutting the deficit to one late, but Morrisville held on behind two more goals from Ingersoll to secure the 15-13 victory.
  • Ingersoll led the Mustangs with nine goals and two assists followed by Vega-Haley and Trowbridge who tallied two goals each.
  • Budney and Ella Oakes (Hogansburg, N.Y.) added one score each as well.
  • Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) guided the Mustang defense, finishing with eight ground balls and 14 saves in goal, earning the win.
  • The Bears were led by Iohseriio Tabor who finished with four goals followed by Megan MacWilliams who tallied three in the contest.
  • Goalkeeper Olivia Minarich made nine saves over 45 minutes in goal before exiting in the fourth quarter, later returning for the final five minutes, while Jane Olszewski saw action in relief during the period.

  • The Mustangs return home next Wednesday, where they will host the Hawks from New Paltz in their final game of the regular season.
