Mustangs Fall to Canton in Tight 11-9 Battle

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville hosted Canton on Wednesday afternoon but fell short in a tightly contested matchup, dropping an 11-9 decision to the Roos.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Canton opened the scoring early, but Morrisville responded with goals from Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and Savanna Scheifla (Alden, N.Y.) (Man-up) to take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Roos capitalized on a late man-up opportunity to even the score at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
  • Morrisville briefly grabbed momentum with goals from Grace Loadwick (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) to take a 4-3 lead midway through the second frame.
  • Canton responded with a strong run, scoring four straight including a man-up goal to build a 7-4 advantage, before Deli Vega-Haley (Worcester, N.Y.) scored late to cut the deficit to 7-5 at halftime.
  • Morrisville came out strong in the third, scoring early and later adding a man-up goals from Vega-Haley to keep it within one at 8-7.
  • Canton answered key runs to maintain the lead, but the Mustangs stayed within striking distance as Ingersoll scored late to make it 9-8 heading into the fourth.
  • The Roos used a man-up goal early and a late insurance tally to hold of Morrisville's push, securing an 11-9 victory despite a fourth-quarter goal from Ingersoll.
  • Morrisville was led by Ingersoll on offense who scored a team-high three goals followed by Vega-Haley who finished with two.
  • Four other Mustangs tallied scores for the Mustangs while Ella Oakes (Hogansburg, N.Y.) recorded the team's lone assist.
  • Ingersoll would guide the defense as well, finishing with three ground balls and seven caused turnovers, while winning four draw controls.
  • In goal, Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) recorded eight saves in the loss.
  • Canton's Caroline Nappi led the Roos with three goals, followed by Sydney Dunn and Ava Bodnar who finished with two scores and two assists each.
  • Goalkeeper Laura Falandys earned the win after saving 14 shots across 60 minutes of action.

  • Morrisville will travel to SUNY Potsdam Saturday to face the Bears in their final road game of the season.
