Turnovers Lead to Morrisville Loss Against Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Mustangs traveled to Cortland to face the Red Dragons, where they would ultimately fall short, 23-4.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Cortland used a strong run of 10 unanswered goals, capitalizing on draw controls and turnovers, to build a 10-0 advantage over the Mustangs in the opening quarter.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) got the Mustangs on the board early, but Cortland responded with a sustained scoring run, netting seven goals to extend their lead to 17-1 at the half.
  • Despite controlling multiple draws, Morrisville was unable to get on the board in the third quarter, as Cortland added four goals, including two free-position scores, to extend their lead to 21-1.
  • The Mustangs showed fight late as Ingersoll scored twice to spark the offense, but Cortland answered with three goals to secure the 24-3 final.
  • Ingersoll led the Mustang offense with three goals, while also controlling eight draws for Morrisville.
  • Goalkeeper Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) earned 10 saves after playing 45 minutes in the loss.
  • Amber Martin also saw 15 minutes in goal for Morrisville.
  • Cortland was led by Emma Dempsey who tallied four goals, while 13 other Red Dragons saw the back of the net.
