Morrisville bats fall short in SUNYAC bout with Hawks

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team dropped a pair with SUNYAC opponent SUNY New Paltz Friday afternoon, as the Hawks limited the Mustangs to four hits across the double-header, while posting two five inning wins.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville softball both outings in the double-header against SUNYAC opponent SUNY New Paltz Friday afternoon, struggling to get the bats going as the Hawks collected the 9-0 and 10-0 wins in five innings in Morrisville.
  • In the first of the day's action, New Paltz jumped out in front 2-0 after two innings and set the Mustangs back six with four more in the third, before collecting the win with a three run fourth inning.
  • Alexa Frenza threw the no hitter for the Hawks, striking out nine.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) registered the loss on the mound, collecting a strikeout in the first two innings of the contest, before Madeline Brennan (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) finished out the final three innings, striking out two.
  • In the nightcap, four separate Mustangs recorded hits, including Sara Brefka (East Syracuse, N.Y.) and Jaiden Bellinger (Syracuse, N.Y.) who went 1-for-1 from the plate.
  • Brennan went 1-for-2 alongside Gracie Battles (Fulton, N.Y.), but the Mustangs were held scoreless as New Paltz collected the 10-0 five inning win.
  • The Hawks opened with a three run first inning, before adding runs in three-of-four remaining frames, including four in the top of the fifth to secure the win.
  • Kendall Darling (Lacona, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound for Morrisville, throwing two innings and allowing six earned runs.
  • Battles completed the final three, striking out one.

  • Morrisville will return to the field tomorrow, hosting Oneonta for a scheduled SUNYAC double-header starting at noon in Morrisville.
