Early Setback Leads to Morrisville Road Loss to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Morrisville traveled to Oneonta Wednesday afternoon for its first SUNYAC matchup of the season, ultimately falling to the Red Dragons, 18-4.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville struggled to find rhythm in the opening quarter, coming up empty on several scoring chances while trying to withstand an early offensive surge from Oneonta.
  • The Mustangs found a spark in the second quarter, breaking through with a goal from Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) but were unable to slow Oneonta's momentum heading into halftime, trailing 12-1.
  • Morrisville came out of halftime with renewed energy, netting two goals in the opening minutes of the third and controlling multiple draw possessions, but ultimately couldn't close the gap as Oneonta answered late in the period.
  • The Mustangs capitalized on a man-up opportunity to start the final quarter but were unable to keep Oneonta off the board as the Red Dragons closed the game on a 5-0 run to secure the 18-4 victory.
  • Budney led the Mustangs in scoring with two goals, followed by Deli Vega-Haley (Worcester, N.Y.) and Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven, N.Y.) who tallied one score a piece.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) led the Mustang defense with three ground balls, while winning eight draw controls.
  • In goal, Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) turned away nine shots in the loss.
  • Oneonta was led by Lindsey Townes and Ava Fitzsimons who tallied five goals a piece while goalkeeper Margot Haring earned the win in 30 minutes of action after saving 11 shots.

  • The Mustangs will stay on the road and travel to Oswego this Saturday, to face the Lakers at 1 PM.
