Bottom of the fourth gets away from Mustangs in loss to Stout

CLERMONT, FLA. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team dropped their second of the day's action Tuesday afternoon to the University of Wisconsin – Stout, allowing five runs in the bottom of the fourth in the 9-0, five inning loss at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville softball team fell in five innings to the University of Wisconsin-Stout Tuesday afternoon, allowing five runs in the bottom of the fourth as Stout earned the 9-0 win.
  • Stout went on the board in the bottom of the second inning, sending a scoring single to right, before adding three runs in the bottom of the following inning to open the gap to a 4-0 advantage.
  • Morrisville attempted a rally in the top of the fourth as Kaylie Kendrick (Johnson City, N.Y.) walked to reach first, followed by a single by Madeline Brennan (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) up the middle to place two on base for the Mustangs, but the Stout defense were able to prevent any score to send the game into the bottom of the fourth with a 4-0 lead.
  • Back-to-back hits saw Stout add a run to their lead, before a triple to left enter tacked on three more runs, widening the gap to eight.
  • Stout added one final run in the inning, sending the game into the top of the fifth with a 9-0 Mustang deficit.
  • Morrisville once again put together a rally attempt, with Hannan Brennan (Trumansburg, N.Y.) leading off the inning with a single to right.
  • Hannah Decker (Kirkville, N.Y.) followed with a single down the right field line, before Morrisville loaded the bases.
  • Stout collected the forced out at home, before picking off Olivia Camacho (Barrigada, Guam) to end the inning and record the win.
  • Brennan and Decker each recorded two hits across the contest, Brennan putting together a 2-for-2 effort, while Decker went 2-for-3.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) appeared on the mound for three innings, allowing four earned runs while collecting three strikeouts in the loss, before being replaced by Gracie Battles (Fulton, N.Y.) in the fourth, allowing five earned runs.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will return to the fields Thursday, facing the University of New England at 1:45, followed by Keene State at 4 p.m. in Florida.
