Smith nets two in win over St. John Fisher

FAIRPORT, N.Y. – Freshman Scarlett Smith (Etobicoke, Ont.) scored twice Friday afternoon to lead the visiting SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team to a 3-1 non-conference win on the road at St. John Fisher University in Rochester.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The visiting SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team netted a 3-1 non-conference win over host St. John Fisher University Friday afternoon, as they scored twice on the power play to earn the victory.
  • The Cardinals were the first to put one on the board, but the lead was short lived as Morrisville's Scarlett Smith (Etobicoke, Ont.) countered with the Mustangs first tally of the day less than two minutes later to tie the contest at one.
  • Katelyn Bovee (Hamlin, N.Y.) was tagged with the assist on the goal.
  • A short time later, Morrisville went on the power play, and took the 2-1 lead with Amelia Lomas (Millarville, Alta.) putting away the feed from newcomer Jorja Gillis (Lansdowne, Ont.) for the edge.
  • Smith posted her second of the day midway through the second period on a power play for Morrisville, sending the wrister past the Cardinal netminder for the 3-1 advantage and eventual win.
  • Karenhatironhtha Johnson (Hogansburg, N.Y.) picked up her first point as a Mustang, earning credit for the assist.
  • Sydney Canham (Fairport, N.Y.) registered the win between the pipes, making 21 total stops as Morrisville held the 30-22 advantage in shots on goal.
