Cortland nets come-from-behind win over Morrisville women

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Visting SUNY Cortland women's hockey posted a come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon over the host SUNY Morrisville Mustangs, posting the final three scores of the contest in the 4-2 league win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Cortland women's hockey netted a 4-2 win over Morrisville Saturday afternoon, posting the final three scores of the contest in the come-from-behind SUNYAC battle on the Mustangs home ice.
  • Morrisville took a 1-0 lead late in the first period with a score from Ella Oakes (Hogansburg, N.Y.) who had the deflection on the crease off the shot from Scarlett Smith (Etobicoke, Ont.) for the tally.
  • Oakes' score was the first of her collegiate career, coming at the 16:11 mark of the first.
  • Morrisville maintained the slim lead until Cortland posted a power play score 3:13 into the second to tie the contest, but the Mustangs quickly went back in front with their own power play goal, a tipped puck on the crease off the stick of Alexa Spiers (Smithtown, N.Y.) for the 2-1 edge.
  • Ella Millar (Fort Erie, Ont.) had the assist.
  • Cortland responded two minutes later with a breakaway wrister on the right to even the game at two nearly 10 minutes into the second.
  • The Red Dragons took their first lead of the contest late in the period, netting the even strength score with 33.4 seconds remaining, sending the game into the final frame with a 3-2 visitor lead.
  • The final tally came at the 12:45 mark of the third, a fourth and final score for Cortland, sealing the league win.
  • Eline Gillodes had 15 in the win in net for Cortland, while Morrisville's Sydney Canham (Fairport, N.Y.) turned in a 36 save effort in net for the Mustangs in the loss.

  • Morrisville will host Oswego next Friday in the second of their five-game home stretch. Puck drops at 7 PM at the IcePlex in Morrisville in the league battle.
