Mustangs unable to tame Bengals in SUNYAC battle

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 SUNYAC decision on the road Friday afternoon to host Buffalo State College, falling to 1-4-0 overall in league standings.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host Buffalo State women's hockey scored twice in the first period and added a score each in the second and third to claim a 4-1 SUNYAC win over visiting SUNY Morrisville Friday afternoon in Buffalo.
  • The Bengals posted back-to-back scores late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission, adding a third score 5:20 into the second for the three-goal advantage.
  • Morrisville was able to break the scoreless drought at 4:46 in the third, as Madison Lawrence (McGraw, N.Y.) collected her second of the season, finding the back of the net off the feed from Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Leola Johnson (Whitesboro, N.Y.).
  • Buffalo State sealed the win late in the period with an empty net score as Morrisville pulled netminder Sydney Canham (Fairport, N.Y.) for the extra skater.
  • Canham finished with 26 saves in the loss in net across 59 minutes of action.
  • Leas dominated the faceoff circle for Morrisville, recording 21 puck drop wins.
  • Alexa Todd registered 34 saves in net for Buffalo State in the win, while teammate Dakota Carlson collected two scores and Sage Running Rabbit four assists to lead the Bengal offensive efforts.

  • Morrisville will meet William Smith for the first time in league play tomorrow afternoon in Geneva. Puck drops at 4 p.m. against the Herons.
