Egri nets score in loss to nationally ranked no. 2 Amherst

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman Nora Egri (Budapest, Hungary) posted her first collegiate goal Friday evening as the host SUNY Morrisville women's hockey team fell to no. 2 nationally ranked Amherst College on the first day of Mustang Cup Tournament play in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's hockey resumed season action Friday night as they hosted no. 2 nationally ranked Amherst College in the second game of the Mustang Cup Tournament action on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville, falling by a 4-1 final score.
  • The Mammoths took a 1-0 lead just three minutes in on a tally by Marie-Eve Marleau who broke free in the neutral zone for the wrister over the glove of the Morrisville keeper, before the visitors posting two more in the second period to open a 3-0 gap after two.
  • Natalie Fu collected one at 4:37 in the second, a one-timer from the top of the Amherst offensive zone, before Gretchen Dann added a second tally of the period for the Mammoths with the deflection after the initial shot from the top left of the zone.
  • Amherst notched their final score of the game early in the fourth, a strike from the top center before Morrisville's Nora Egri (Budapest, Hungary) collected her first collegiate goal minutes later with the chip over the glove of the Mammoth netminder.
  • Leola Johnson (Rome, N.Y.) and Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) were credited with the assists.
  • Dann finished with two goals and an assist for Amherst.
  • Maleigh Tittel posted the win in net for the Mammoths, turning aside two in the final period of action.
  • Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) registered 47 stops across three periods of action.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will host Trinity College (CT) in a 12 p.m. consolation game tomorrow at the IcePlex.
  • Trinity fell to #9 Adrian College by a 2-0 final decision in the first of the day's action. A top 10 battle is set to take place in the championship round between Adrian and Amherst.
