Offense stalls in road loss to Potsdam women

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team played to an even opening quarter Saturday afternoon on the road at SUNY Potsdam but couldn't keep up with the Bears across the next two quarters as the hosts posted the 76-56 league win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball fell to 0-8 in SUNYAC play Saturday afternoon as host Potsdam State posted the 76-56 win on the Bears home court in Potsdam.
  • Morrisville and Potsdam were tied at 17 after the opening quarter, but the Bears hit four straight three's to open a 12-point gap over the Mustangs, and head into the locker room with the double-digit lead.
  • Potsdam continued their momentum in the third, increasing their lead to as many as 24, creating a 62-39 margin after three frames.
  • The Mustangs outgained Potsdam in the final quarter of action 17-14, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Bears netted the win.
  • Jessalyn Jones (Moravia, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 17 points off the bench, while teammate Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) chipped in a 14 point effort.
  • Hayley Dawson (Papamoa, New Zealand) had 10 points, registering four rebounds, with Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) snagging a team best seven off the class.
  • Mia Kaltenbach (Cooperstown, N.Y.) assisted the defensive efforts with four steals.
  • Lillian Hoyt led the Bears with 18 points in her play off the bench, hitting six three's, as teammate DaeLynn Alcock added another 17 to go with six rebounds and six assists.

  • Morrisville will host Buffalo State Tuesday in a 5:30 tipoff, their last home tilt before a four-game road stretch.
