Mustang women put together late rally, fall short to Fredonia

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team put together a fourth quarter rally Tuesday afternoon, but fell short as visiting Fredonia State picked up the 68-62 league win in SUNYAC action in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball rallied in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's SUNYAC action but fell short as Fredonia captured the 68-62 victory in league play over the Mustangs.
  • Morrisville trailed 53-40 entering the final frame and Fredonia extended their advantage to 16 before the Mustangs put together a 14-4 run over a five minute span to cut the deficit to six with 1:18 to go.
  • Two free throws from Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) made it a five-point game with one minute remaining, but Fredonia added a layup on the opposite end to put the game out of reach with seconds remaining on the clock.
  • Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) posted a 20-point night for the Mustangs alongside Jessalyn Jones (Moravia, N.Y.) who also netted 20 points to go along with four rebounds off the bench.
  • Ingersoll added 15, snagging seven rebounds and dishing out six assists for the hosts, while Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) chipped in five points, assisted five others and collected seven boards.
  • Fredonia had four net double-figures in the win, including Grace Alexander who led the way with 18 points, assisting five others.

  • Morrisville will be on the road at Plattsburgh on Friday night, meeting the Cardinals for the first time this season. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
