Morrisville men overcome second half deficit to ice Fredonia 93-86

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball overcame an 18-point second half deficit Tuesday night to topple the visiting Fredonia Blue Devils in league action in Morrisville, netting the 93-86 SUNYAC win.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball trailed by 18 points in the second half of Tuesday night's SUNYAC action in Morrisville, rallying behind a 68.97% shooting effort from the floor to post the come from behind win over visiting Fredonia by a 93-86 final score in league play.
  • Fredonia held the 18 point lead with 14:05 to go but the Mustangs went on a 17-2 run fueled by eight straight points from Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) to make it a three point game with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
  • The Blue Devils were able to regain a seven point lead with 9:09 to go, but Moorehead hit this third from long range to cut the deficit to four, with teammate Robert Wiggins (White Plains, Md.) sinking the long ball on the following possession to make it a one point game.
  • Morrisville's offensive blitz continued behind forced turnovers with a three-point play from Bruce Wiggins (Liverpool, N.Y.) to put the hosts out in front, providing the momentum needed to pull together a 15-5 run over the next five minutes and open the gap for the hosts to a seven point lead.
  • Fredonia cut the lead to five with three seconds to go with a three from the corner, but the Mustangs were able to seal the win from the free throw line as Wingate hit both attempts.
  • Morrisville hit a stellar 20-of-29 shots from the floor in the second half, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc with 36 of their points coming from players off the bench.
  • Moorehead spearheaded the scoring efforts with 21 points, hitting 7-of-10 from the floor, including four three's, while three additional teammates posted double digits.
  • Tony Borges (Auburn, N.Y.) had 16 points, nine on three-pointers from the wing, while collecting six points, as teammate Wingate added 14 points, assisting four others.
  • Kaelem Haskins (Liverpool, N.Y.) chipped in 11 to go along with six assists.
  • Fredonia had three net double-digits, Martin Garza leading the way with 28 points.
  • Brian Kopp added 22 on six three's, while Ethan Sokolowski netted 10 to go with a team high nine rebounds.
  • Morrisville outgained Fredonia 59-45 in the second half, collecting 15 points off turnovers in the frame alongside 17 on the fast break.
