Mustang unable to clip Hawks in SUNYAC loss

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team was unable to stave off a second half rally by visiting SUNY New Paltz, dropping the SUNYAC battle by a 77-71 final score Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball led by four at the halftime break and were unable to hold off a second half rally by the visiting SUNY New Paltz Hawks as they fell 77-71 in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
  • New Paltz used a near 54% shooting effort from the floor in the second half, including an 8-4 spurt over the final three minutes to claim the win.
  • The Hawks held a slim two-point advantage with just under four minutes to go, before capitalizing off a missed Mustang shot to convert on the opposite end, adding a jumper with 1:30 showing to boost their advantage to seven with just over a minute to go.
  • Tony Borges (Auburn, N.Y.) converted two from the free throw line and Avion Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y.) added a layup to bring the Mustangs within three with 33 seconds showing, but New Paltz hit 3-of-4 from the line down the stretch to seal the league win.
  • Isaiah Rivera led all scorers with 27 points for New Paltz, adding nine rebounds and three assists to the team totals.
  • Morrisville had four net double digits, with Kaelem Haskins (Liverpool, N.Y.) leading the way with 13.
  • Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) and Grainger each posted 12 points and four boards, Grainger dishing out four assists additionally.
  • Borges rounded out the Mustang leaderboard with 10 points and six rebounds.

  • Morrisville will return to the court Tuesday, hosting Fredonia State at 6 p.m. in Morrisville.
