Late score nets one goal draw with Plattsburgh

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Alieu Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.) rifled the game tying score into the upper right corner of the net with under two minutes to play in the contest Saturday afternoon as the host SUNY Morrisville Mustangs men's soccer team played to a one goal draw with visiting Plattsburgh State on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Plattsburgh State took a one goal lead midway through the first half and maintained that advantage until the closing minutes of full-time when senior midfielder Alieu Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.) hit the game tying strike into the upper right hand corner of the net to even the contest at one and secure the draw for the Mustangs in SUNYAC action on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Plattsburgh took the 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of play as the free kick was placed in the right side of the six-meter box and headed inside the left post for the advantage.
  • Morrisville had the chance to even the score in the 53rd minute, but Cardinal keeper Matthew D'Ippolito got the hand on the shot attempt to prevent the score.
  • Maintaining pressure in the box, Morrisville had another great opportunity to put one on the board, but D'Ippolito got a hand on the header within the six to keep the Mustangs scoreless.
  • With time winding down, Morrisville was awarded a corner kick and Pedro Oliviera (Baraga, Portugal) sent the short chip to the top corner of the box to an open Barrie, who with the one-touch sent the blast into the upper right hand corner of the net to even the game at one at the 88:24 mark and force the tie in the SUNYAC opener for the Mustangs.
  • D'Ippolito finished with six saves in the draw for Plattsburgh, all in the second half, while Ronaldo Fatolou (New York, N.Y.) collected seven, three in the second half.

  • Morrisville will host Buffalo State on Wednesday on Drake Field, with an opening kick off scheduled for 4 p.m. in Morrisville.
