Morrisville women roll to win behind Lafontaine's hat trick

TULLY, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team picked up a 6-3 win over host SUNY ESF Tuesday as senior Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) posted a hat trick to lead the Mustangs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's soccer netted a 6-3 non-conference win over host SUNY ESF Tuesday afternoon in Tully, with four different Mustangs contributing to the scoring.
  • Senior Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) notched three goals and added an assist, including the game winner, to lead Morrisville.
  • Her first tally came at the 12-minute mark of the opening period, as she buried the dish from Ava Malin (Cold Brook, N.Y.) for the 1-0 lead.
  • Haylie Buysse (Keene Valley, N.Y.) extended the lead for the Mustangs at 41:00 to 2-0, scoring off the assist from Ellie Patenaude (Mechanicville, N.Y.), but ESF quickly rebounded with one of their own to send the game into the half with a one goal Morrisville advantage.
  • Lafontaine notched back-to-back scores for Morrisville early in the second, posting her second of the game at the 50' mark as she connected with Buysse, before completing the hat trick eight minutes later, burying the shot off the assist from Sarah Davis (Norwich, N.Y.).
  • Patenaude extended the lead to 5-1 in the 65th minute of play with her unassisted tally and Savanna Scheifla (Alden, N.Y.) added her first collegiate score for the Mustangs 10 minutes later, opening the lead to five goals.
  • Lafontaine assisted Scheifla on her score.
  • ESF added two down the stretch, but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs posted the 6-3 victory.
  • Alyssa Denton (Castle Creek, N.Y.) collected nine saves and the win in her first appearance in goal for Morrisville.
