Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's soccer team took advantage of defensive miscues Tuesday afternoon, as they dominated visiting Hartwick College in a 5-0 battle on the Mustangs pitch in Morrisville in non-conference action.
THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 5, Hartwick 0 (halftime: Morrisville 2-0)
  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 2-0-0, Hartwick 1-1-0

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's soccer claimed a 5-0 non-conference win over visiting Hartwick College Tuesday afternoon, taking advantage of misplayed balls by the Hawks defense as they dominated the Mustang pitch in the contest.
  • Morrisville put their first on the board at the 8:46 mark of the opening period as defender Sam Frimpong (Bronx, N.Y.) sent a long ball towards the Mustangs offensive box, where a misplayed ball by the Hawks goalkeeper saw freshman Aaron Chapman (Aberdeen, Scotland) with a wide open net for his first collegiate tally.
  • Moments later, Chapman picked up an assist as he chipped the ball to Pedro Oliveira (Baraga, Portugal) making the cut down center from the top of the box for the one-touch score and 2-0 Mustang lead.
  • Morrisville held onto the two-goal advantage until adding a third strike in the 53rd minute of play.
  • A costly Hartwick foul gave the Mustangs a free kick just outside the box on the far side of the field and Alieu Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.) sent the ball into the right side of the box to newcomer Fernando Rosas (White Plains, N.Y.) who kept the ball in play and deflected it over to Tariq Thompson (Hudson, N.Y.) for the header.
  • Just over a minute later, freshman Christ Fopossi Tchuente (Bronx, N.Y.) intercepted the Hawks clear attempt at the top right of the box and following two-touches blasted the ball inside the right side of the net for a 4-0 lead.
  • Fopossi Tchuente added a second in the 72nd minute of play, again intercepting the misplayed ball by the Hawk defense, and sniping the ball high right for a 5-0 Morrisville win.
  • Ronaldo Fatolou (New York, N.Y.) recorded the shutout in net with four saves.
  • Drew Cover registered three in the loss for Hartwick as Morrisville held the 8-4 shot on goal advantage.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville hits the road for their first away battle Saturday at Union College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Schenectady.
