Women's Soccer plays to three-goal draw Saturday

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team opened the 2025 season on the road Saturday at host SUNY Poly in Marcy, and came away with a three-goal draw as the hosts posted a score late in the contest to register the tie.

Morrisville caught the Wildcats off guard in the opening two minutes of the game, taking the 1-0 lead as Haylie Buysse (Keene Valley, N.Y.) connected with Ashlyn Seguin (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.) at the 2:01 mark for the season's first goal.

Buysse extended the Mustangs lead to two minutes later, netting the unassisted tally at 5:46 and Morrisville maintained the 2-0 lead until the 43rd minute when an unassisted score by the hosts sent the game into the halftime period with a 2-1 score.

Minutes into the second half, Poly tied the game at two on a penalty kick.

Playing back and fourth throughout the second half, Morrisville was able to regain the edge with a senior strike at 81:47. Callie Lafontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) found an open Ava Malin (Cold Brook, N.Y.) for the go ahead score, but the lead was short lived as the hosts quickly rebounded with the tying score for a second time.

Morrisville was unable to get one past the Poly defense in the remainder of the second half, settling for the three-goal draw.

Cheyenne Thomas (Beltsville, Md.) recorded one save in the tie in net for Morrisville, who out shot the Wildcats 11-8 overall on the day.

Morrisville returns to the pitch Tuesday, traveling to Hartwick College for a non-conference bout in Oneonta.
