MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Members of the SUNY Morrisville women's and men's track and field teams will make their debut at the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday, as hosted by SUNY Cortland at their Stadium Complex.
Two from the women's team have qualified for the post-season, including
Jaidon Brodie (Mt. Vision, N.Y.) in the triple jump and
Laura Powers (Chittenango, N.Y.) in the 800- and 1500-meter races.
Brodie has put together a best jump of 9.48 meters this season, while Powers qualified with her times of 2:34.13 and 5:09.86, respectively, in the mid-distance races.
The men's team will see six individuals compete for outdoor titles, alongside two relay teams, with competition beginning Friday mid-afternoon.
Siyel Bowman (Bronx, N.Y.) will compete in the 400-meter dash for the Mustangs, registering a best time of 50.91 seconds, kicking off championship action for Morrisville around 3:40 p.m. Friday afternoon in the prelims.
Fellow freshman
Michael Ventricelli (Massapequa, N.Y.) will follow with teammate
Nasir King (Elmira, N.Y.) in the men's 800, with prelims scheduled to begin around 4:25 p.m..
Kieran Carter (Oswego, N.Y.) is entered in the 400-meter hurdles after posting a personal best 1:01.22 to qualify for the post-season, and is scheduled for the preliminaries at 4:55.
Brodie will begin action on day two for all Morrisville competitors with the triple jump finals beginning at 10:30 a.m., before Powers lines up for the 1500-meter race at noon.
The men's 400-meter relay team of
Thando Shezi (Johannesburg, South Africa),
Thomas Eison (St. Albans, N.Y.), Bowman and
Kaleel Tobias (Rosedale, N.Y.) will begin competition for the Mustangs men's team Saturday around 11:40, before Ventricelli and
Avion Harris (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) compete for a title in the 1500-meter race scheduled around 12:15.
The men's 4x400 meter relay will be the final event of the championship meet, and will feature relay legs of Bowman, Carter, Harris and Ventricelli.
