Mohammed's nine-point outing leads Morrisville men over Canton

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Junior attackman Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) posted a career high eight goals Wednesday afternoon, leading host SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse to a 19-8 win over visiting SUNY Canton in SUNYAC action on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse picked up their first SUNYAC win of the season Wednesday as they handed visiting SUNY Canton the 1908 league loss on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • A trio of juniors combined for 14 goals and nine assists on the day, including attackman Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who notched a collegiate high eight goals and an assist to lead the squad.
  • Jason Tedeschi (Manlius, N.Y.) and Nicholas DeNicola (Southold, N.Y.) added a three goal, four assist outing apiece, as Morrisville dominated the offensive game over the Roos with 34 shots on goal.
  • Morrisville's first tally came with 4:04 to go in the opening quarter on an extra man tally from Tedeschi to cut into the two-goal deficit created early on by the Roos.
  • Tedeschi's score rallied the Mustangs for three straight, who entered the second quarter knotted at three with Canton.
  • Morrisville posted four over a span of five minutes early in the second, taking their first lead of the contest and expanding the gap to four midway through, before Canton broke up the offensive blitz with one of their own with 6:44 to go.
  • The Mustangs had back-to-back tallies to close out the first half, carrying a 9-4 advantage into the halftime break.
  • Morrisville expanded their lead to eight midway through the third, before Canton was able to climb back within six, but an extra man score by Mohammed kicked off a five goal scoring streak, three off the stick of the junior, that carried over into the fourth quarter.
  • With 5:04 to go Mohammed buried his seventh score of the contest, registering his 100th collegiate point, before adding a final strike minutes later as Morrisville collected the 19-7 win.
  • Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.Y.) and Curtis Robitaille (Endwell, N.Y.) each had a multi-goal game for the Mustangs, netting two apiece, while also collecting a combined five assists, three alone from Dohn.
  • Brian Kelly (Tully, N.Y.) added a score of his own, while Cade Moss (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Giovanni Otero (Brentwood, N.Y.) added an assist each.
  • Andrew Idzik (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts in the ground ball game, collecting 11, as he went 14-for-20 from the center x on faceoffs.
  • DeNicola added three grounders and caused two turnovers, while Dohn also picked up three.
  • Jonney Mclear led Canton with two goals and two assists, as teammate Austin Mesler collected two goals and assisted another in the Roo efforts.
  • Faceoff specialist Devin Guerriero collected seven ground balls on a 13-for-26 effort from the center x.
  • Hayden Todd collected 15 saves in the loss between the pipes for Canton, facing 34 shots on goal across all four quarters.
  • Blake Dunton (Middlesex, N.Y.) turned aside four for the win for the Mustangs in net, appearing in the opening half, before fellow goalkeeper Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) added nine saves in the second half.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
  • Morrisville, who played the contest for the "Every Child Matters" mission, will return to the field for the regular season finale on Saturday as they welcome Plattsburgh State to the Valley.
  • The contest is set to faceoff at 2 p.m. in Morrisville, for senior day, alongside an awareness game to Lax Out Canter.
