Morrisville overpowered by Cortland in SUNYAC loss

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team fell in SUNYAC action Friday afternoon to visiting SUNY Cortland, as the Red Dragons picked up the 27-2 victory on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team fell in SUNYAC play Friday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville, dropping the 27-2 league decision to visiting SUNY Cortland.
  • The Red Dragons opened a 12-1 lead after the opening quarter and didn't look back as they limited the Mustangs across the contest.
  • After an early score by the Red Dragons, Morrisville's Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) evened the contest at one with her unassisted tally at the 12:30 mark, but Cortland exploded for 11 straight tallies for the first quarter advantage.
  • Morrisville wasn't able to get past the Red Dragon defense until the middle of the fourth quarter, as Ingersoll connected with Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) for the Mustangs second score of the day.
  • Ingersoll added six draw controls to the Mustangs efforts, while Keeley Riley (Dexter, N.Y.) and Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) collected three ground balls apiece.
  • Smith posted the loss between the pipes, collecting 11 saves across three quarters of play, before Rebecca Thomas (March, N.Y.) appeared in the final quarter, turning aside two.
  • Seventeen Red Dragons contributed to the win with tallies on the day, including Nicole Iapoce who led the way with seven points behind her two goals and five assists.
  • Trinity Parks registered the win with two saves.

  • Morrisville will hit the road for the final time Tuesday, traveling to SUNY Canton for a 4 p.m. league battle.
