Morrisville edges Buffalo State, 4-3, in SUNYAC battle

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey put points on the board in each period of play Friday afternoon on the road at host Buffalo State College, edging the Bengals 4-3 for the SUNYAC win in Buffalo.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's hockey posted at least one score in each period of Friday afternoon's SUNYAC battle on the road at Buffalo State, collecting the 4-3 league win come final whistle in Buffalo.
  • Morrisville put the first of the afternoon on the scoreboard at the 10:07 mark, a power play tally off the stick of Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) for the 1-0 lead.
  • Within minutes, Buffalo State responded with a score of their own, sending the game into the first intermission tied at one.
  • Morrisville notched back-to-back scores within two minutes of one another in the second, the first at 12:58 followed by a short handed tally at 14:31 to claim a two-goal lead.
  • Leola Johnson (Whitesboro, N.Y.) collected her first collegiate score to give the visitors the 2-1 lead, before Bailey McMaster (Regina, Sask.) extended it to two less than two minutes later.
  • Buffalo State got one back at 16:15 to send the game into the second intermission with a 3-2 Mustang lead.
  • Early in the third, Buffalo State tied the game at three, but just under 30 seconds later Morrisville put the eventual game winner on the board for the 4-3 victory.
  • Couture was credited with the goal, her second of the day.
  • Kennedy Kirkby (Prescott, Ont.), Kate Mabey (Guelph, Ont.) and Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) each registered two assists in the contest.
  • Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up the win in net turning aside 34, including 14 in the final period of play.

  • Morrisville will return to the ice tomorrow at 3 for the series finale against the Bengals in Buffalo.
