Morrisville women outlast Buffalo State for win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball picked up a quality 59-54 SUNYAC win Tuesday evening, topping visiting Buffalo State Bengals for the league victory on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball outlasted visiting Buffalo State College Tuesday evening to collect a 59-54 league win on their home court in Morrisville.
  • Sophomore Hannah Bonczkowski (Otego, N.Y.) put up a season best 21 points to lead the hosts charge, adding three rebounds to her totals, while hitting three from beyond the arc.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) collected a double-double with her 12 point, 18 rebound effort, adding four assists to the Mustangs team wide contribution.
  • Jakeira Stackhouse (Liverpool, N.Y.) chipped in six points to go along with six rebounds, with fellow teammate Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) assisting four, while contributing five points.
  • Morrisville held the slim 17-13 advantage after the first quarter, before extending their lead to seven come halftime.
  • The hosts widened their gap to as many as 14 in the third quarter, but the Bengals chipped away at the lead with a 12-1 run to bring the difference within a two-possession game entering the fourth.
  • An early quarter jumper by the Bengals closed the gap to two, and after battling back and fourth for the ensuing four minutes, Christmas put away the layup, followed by a three from Bonczkowski to extend the host lead to seven with 4:04 to go.
  • Buffalo State hit two free throws down the stretch to cut the Mustang advantage to three with 39 seconds showing on the clock, but Bonczkowski drove the lane to increase the lead to five and seal the win for Morrisville.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will be on the road at Cortland Friday for a  5:30 PM SUNYAC tip, hitting the road to Fredonia on Tuesday in a rescheduled contest from earlier this semester.
