PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team saw their season come to a close Tuesday night as they fell 69-66 in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs to host Plattsburgh State in Plattsburgh.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Fifth seeded SUNY Morrisville men's basketball saw their 2024-25 season come to a close Tuesday night as they fell 69-66 to fourth seeded Plattsburgh State in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs in Plattsburgh.
• Both teams were slow to put together any offensive rhythm in the first half, mustering a 28-28 tie game at the break, before exploding offensively in the second.
• Plattsburgh built up as many as a nine-point lead midway through the second half, but Morrisville shifted momentum their way to cut the deficit to two with just under six minutes to go.
• Playing within two possessions for much of the remainder of the contest, the Mustangs closed the gap to one with 34 seconds with two free throws from Chris Merilus (Nyack, N.Y.).
• On the ensuing Plattsburgh possession, CJ McCullum (Bronx, N.Y.) came up with the steal as time was winding down, but the Mustangs sent the hosts to the line with a costly foul on the opposite end of the court.
• The Cardinals converted both free throw attempts with three seconds to go, giving them the three-point advantage before Morrisville used a series of timeouts to set up a last second play in an attempt to even the score.
• Morrisville had a last second effort to tie the contest with hopes of forcing the extra time period, but the three-point attempt hit the back of the rim and bounced out giving the Cardinals the playoff win.
• Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with 13 points, adding five rebounds and five steals while posting three blocked shots.
• Kaelem Haskins (Liverpool, N.Y.) added 10 points off the bench for Morrisville alongside nine from Merilus, who also collected six rebounds.
• Yvan Fils-Aime (Dix Hills, N.Y.) posted nine points, also collecting five rebounds.

• Morrisville concludes the season with a 13-13 overall record, putting together a 9-9 SUNYAC slate and appearance in the championship tournament.
