Morrisville men unable to stop Lakers in SUNYAC outing

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team struggled in the opening half of Saturday afternoon's SUNYAC battle with visiting Oswego State, falling 91-69 come final whistle in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball struggled to contain a hot shooting Laker squad out of the gates in Saturday afternoon's SUNYAC battle, falling come final whistle to Oswego State by a 91-69 final score in Morrisville.
  • Oswego hit 20-of-35 from the floor in the first half, including a 9-for-16 effort from beyond the arc, stunning the Mustangs who fell behind early.
  • Morrisville maintained pace with the Lakers in the second half, but the opening period deficit proved too much to overcome as they registered the loss on their home court.
  • Bruce Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) collected 11 points apiece for the Mustangs to lead the way, with four additional teammates each netting eight in the loss.
  • Robert Wiggins (White Plains, Md.), Avion Grainger (Syracuse, N.Y.), Jacob Works (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Kaelem Haskins (Liverpool, N.Y.) each had eight points, while Grainger led the way with four assists and four blocks across the afternoon.
  • Four netted double digits for Oswego, including Steven Breadley who had 24 points on 6-for-9 shooting from long range and a collective 8-for-12 effort.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will head to Keuka College for the final contest of the 2025 season and winter break, returning to the court on January 3 for the first in 2026.
  • The game against the Lakers was a memorial game for basketball alum Hunter Kowaleski, who passed away earlier this year Donations were collected for the New York State Sheriff's Association Children's Summer Camp fund to assist children in attending summer camp who have an interest in law enforcement.
  • Avion Grainger was selected as the Kowaleski Player of the Game for his efforts across the afternoon.
