Maziarchuk nets thriller as Morrisville ties Buffalo State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey forced extra time with a dramatic ending to regulation, playing to the 1-1 tie with visiting Buffalo State College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville men's ice hockey team, for the second time in as many days, settled for a 1-1 tie with visiting Buffalo State College in SUNYAC action in Morrisville.
  • After playing to nearly 40 minutes of scoreless back and forth action, visiting Buffalo State was able to put the game's first tally on the board with 26.7 seconds remaining in the second to send the game into the final period with a 1-0 visitor lead.
  • Morrisville pulled netminder Chad Lowe (Auburn, N.Y.) for an extra skater at the 18:44 mark of the third, and the Mustangs capitalized as sophomore Maxim Maziarchuk (Staten Island, N.Y.) sniped in the tying score with 14.4 seconds remaining in regulation, forcing the overtime period.
  • Connor Santay (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) moved the puck from the corner to an open Maziarchuk on the left point for the open shot.
  • Buffalo State had the opportunity early on in the extra frame with a power play, but Morrisville's defense made three straight stops to keep the Bengals off the board.
  • Seconds after the Mustang penalty was complete for too many men on the ice, they had the power play opportunity for the same penalty on Buffalo State.
  • Morrisville controlled possession throughout the remainder of the overtime period, making Buffalo State's Ben Dardis work to keep the hosts off the board.
  • Dardis turned away six in the final 1:32 to settle for the draw, posting a game total 25 saves.
  • Morrisville won the shoot out exhibition, with Tanner Dietz (Mitchell, Ont.) putting in the final of the three-shot series.
  • Lowe earned the tie in net for Morrisville after making 47 saves across 63:58.

  • Morrisville will head to Plattsburgh State next Friday, their first road SUNYAC outing of the young season.
