Women unable to stave off Knights rally in season opener

GLENSIDE, PA – The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team opened the 2025 season on the road Friday evening and were unable to hold off a late Arcadia rally as the Knights collected a 4-2 victory over the Mustangs in Glenside.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey opened the 2025-26 season slate Friday evening on the road at Arcadia University, falling 4-2 in non-conference action.
  • Morrisville took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period but were unable to stave off a late Arcadia rally that saw the hosts net two unanswered tallies before capping off the night with an empty net score to snatch the win.
  • Morrisville put the first score of the season on the board at the 19:09.1 mark, taking advantage of the power play as Tilly Couture (Bedford, N.S.) rifled her first of the year into the back of the net off the feed from Avery Holland (Plattsburgh, N.Y.).
  • Newcomer Scarlett Smith (Etobicoke, Ont.) picked up her first point of the season with the second assist on the power play score.
  • Arcadia evened the contest at one 9:18 into the second with their own power play score, before senior captain Meadow Clarke (Middlesackville, N.S.) put the Mustangs back out in front with her power play score nearly two minutes later.
  • Amelia Lomas (Millarville, Alta.) was credited with the assist on the tally.
  • Less than a minute later, the hosts evened the game for a second time, sending it into the third knotted at two.
  • Two minutes into the final period, Arcadia took the lead with an unassisted score and maintained the distance until the 19:59.9 mark when they posted the empty netter to secure the 4-2 win.
  • Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) posted the loss between the pipes, turning aside a game total 25, including 15 in the second period.
  • Morrisville went 2-for-5 on the power play for the night, while Lomas also picked up 17 faceoff wins in the circle for the Mustangs.

  • Morrisville will be back in action Saturday against Arcadia for the second of the weekend double with a puck drop scheduled for 1:40 p.m. in Glenside.
