Field hockey dominates Alfred in shut-out win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville field hockey team dominated visiting Alfred University Monday afternoon, recording the 9-0 shut out victory on Drake Field in Morrisville as five different players contributed to the scoring.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville field hockey had five players net scores Monday afternoon as the Mustangs controlled non-conference opponent Alfred University in a 9-0 win on Drake Field.
  • Morrisville posted back-to-back tallies midway through the first quarter to claim the early 2-0 lead, the first coming at the 6:06 mark as Macie May (Barker, N.Y.) found Melissa Beaver (Granville, N.Y.) on the right post for the sweeping score.
  • Minutes later May added one of her own at the 8:45 mark, putting away the chip from McKenzie Williams (Barton, N.Y.) for the two goal lead.
  • Williams gave Morrisville the 3-0 lead at the 18:55 mark, carrying the Mustangs into the halftime break.
  • Minutes into the third quarter, Lilly Bagg (Nineveh, N.Y.) put the Mustangs ahead by four, before Kylee Noyes (Castle Creek, N.Y.) made it a five goal difference with her power score at the 35:25 mark.
  • Williams collected her second goal of the day, an unassisted tally just over a minute later before Beaver posted her second of the contest seconds shy of the 40 minute mark, deflecting the initial shot by Noyes.
  • Noyes went on to add two more scores in the fourth quarter to finish with the hat trick.
  • Williams had a five point outing behind her two goals and assist.
  • Emmaly Noeller (Canastota, N.Y.) earned the win in net, saving three across 43 minutes of play, before Jillian Buczkowski (Rome, N.Y.) finished out the final 17 minutes with one stop, a one-on-one breakaway, to secure the shut-out win.
  • Morrisville outgained Alfred 25-4 in shots on goal and held the 19-3 advantage in penalty corners.

  • Morrisville will travel to Nazareth University next Tuesday before resuming SUNYAC play on the 17th at New Paltz.
  • Morrisville played in special pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness.
