Morrisville powers way to SUNYAC win over Fredonia

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball opened State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday night in Morrisville, downing visiting Fredonia by a 3-1 match final.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball powered their way to a SUNYAC schedule opening 3-1 match win over visiting Fredonia Friday night in Morrisville as they registered set wins of 25-20, 19-25, 27-25, and 25-12 over the Blue Devils.
  • Morrisville jumped out in front in the match with a convincing first set win that saw the Mustangs record 20 kills off the swings of their outside and middle hitters.
  • Fredonia evened the match at one set apiece outgaining Morrisville .235 to .053 in hitting from the floor in the second set.
  • Fredonia held a 16-11 lead in the third set over the Mustangs before Isabella Eskierka (Amery, Wisc.) registered back-to-back scoring attacks, cutting the lead to two as teammates Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and Cassandra Bellmore (Windsor, N.Y.) chipped in two serves later with kills of their own to even the set at 17.
  • Fredonia regained the advantage late in the set, 23-21, but a kill from Kylie Hutchinson (Liberty Hill, Texas) ignited three straight Mustang points as they regained the one-point lead.
  • After tying the set at 25, a service error by Fredonia returned serve to Morrisville, and Bellmore and Samantha Siedlecki (Thorton, Colo.) were big at the net, recording the block to give the hosts the 2-1 match lead with the 27-25 set win.
  • In the fourth set, Morrisville held an 8-5 advantage before Siedlecki threw one down to kick off a four-point swing for the Mustangs, to jump out in front 12-5.
  • Fredonia battled to make it a 14-8 set in favor of the hosts, but the power of the swings from Siedlecki and Eskierka put Morrisville ahead by a commanding 22-8 advantage, closing it out down the stretch with back-to-back kills from Trowbridge to secure the league match win.
  • Eskierka finished the match with 26 kills, while Trowbridge tacked on another 12.
  • Siedlecki registered eight kills to go along with five total blocks, another five coming from Autumn Dailey (Smyrna, N.Y.).
  • Bellmore assisted 22 on the night, alongside another 21 from Keely Shearer (Haslet, Texas), while libero Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) posted a game high 12 assists to go along with her 29 digs on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Shearer also added 15 digs in the defensive efforts, while Hutchinson served up two aces and recorded 13 digs on the night.
  • Morrisville outgained Fredonia 59-26 in kills across the match, while playing big at the net with 10 blocks to the Blue Devils two.
