Bengals outlast Morrisville in SUNYAC battle in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Host Buffalo State College women's basketball outgained the visiting SUNY Morrisville Mustangs 30-18 in the final quarter of Tuesday night's SUNYAC action in Buffalo, edging the visitors by a 77-76 final score in league play.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host Buffalo State women's basketball put together a 30- point fourth quarter Tuesday evening and outlasted the visiting SUNY Morrisville Mustangs to claim the 77-76 SUNYAC win in Buffalo.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 23 points as three additional teammates collected double figures across the night.
  • Ingersoll hit 9-of-14 from the floor for Morrisville, adding three rebounds and assisting five, while collecting four steals.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double, assisting a team high seven and registering three blocked shots, while fellow forward Jakeira Stackhouse (Liverpool, N.Y.) chipped in 11 points in the Mustang efforts.
  • Hannah Bonczkowski (Otego, N.Y.) had 10 points and four boards to round out the Mustang leaderboard.
  • Morrisville and Buffalo State were tied at 36 at the break before the visitors pulled ahead with a 22-point third quarter to carry the 58-47 lead into the final frame.
  • The Mustangs increased their lead to 15 two minutes into the fourth, but the Bengals began to claw away putting together a 12-5 run to make it a nine-point game midway through.
  • A second three by Morgan Popp in the frame brought Buffalo State to within eight, kicking off an eight point spurt that made it a three-point game with three minutes remaining.
  • Morrisville converted two free throws to regain the five-point advantage, but a three-point play on the opposite end seconds later made it a two point ball game with minutes to go.
  • The Bengals took their first lead of the quarter at the 1:18 mark with a layup in the paint, but Stackhouse would regain the one-point lead for Morrisville with 1:01 to go with two free throws from the charity stripe.
  • The hosts jumped back out in front with 38 seconds showing on the clock with a layup, but Ingersoll responded for Morrisville with 23 seconds to go for the one-point edge.
  • Collecting the offensive board off a missed three, a layup with 5.8 seconds put the Bengals back out in front and sealed the league win.
