Morrisville women stopped short by Fredonia in SUNYAC play

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball struggled in the second quarter of Tuesday night's SUNYAC play against visiting Fredonia State, falling by a 48-65 final score to the Blue Devils on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball fell behind in the second quarter of Tuesday evening's SUNYAC play on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville and were unable to recover despite a late push as Fredonia picked up the league win by a 63-48 final.
  • Morrisville, who trailed 18-12 after the opening quarter, suffered a 14 point set back at the half, in part due to a 9-2 run by Fredonia in the second that opened the gap to a double digit lead.
  • The Mustangs fought hard in the second half of action to cut into the Fredonia lead, including outscoring the visitors 18-17 in the final frame, but the effort wasn't enough as the Blue Devils earned the win.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with 10 points, adding nine rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots, while teammate Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) added nine points on three from beyond the arc.
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) came off the bench to add nine as well, hitting 3-for-4 from long range, while Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) contributed eight rebounds and a team high four steals to the Mustangs defensive efforts.

  • Morrisville will head north to face Potsdam and Plattsburgh over the weekend action, meeting the Bears on Friday in a 5:30 tip off.
