Slow start leads to Mustang loss against Cortland

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball got off to a slow start Friday night in the SUNYAC match against SUNY Cortland, falling by a 66-36 final score on their home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball got off to a slow start Friday evening against SUNY Cortland, falling 66-36 come final buzzer in Morrisville.
  • Cortland built up a 27 point lead at the break limiting Morrisville to just 18% shooting from the floor in the opening half.
  • The Mustangs were able to move the ball inside in the second half, chipping away at the deficit, before overtaking the Red Dragons 13-9 in the final quarter.
  • However, the difference was too significant to overcome as Cortland collected the league win.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) posted nine points and six boards to lead the Mustang efforts, getting assistance from Jakeira Stackhouse (Liverpool, N.Y.) who added seven points and four rebounds off the bench.
  • Anna Neufeld (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) added six points to go along with four rebounds, alongside Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) who posted six points and six boards.
  • Cortland had four in double digits, with Brooke Tillotson leading the way with 12 points.
  • Kayla Campbell had eight rebounds to lead the visitors on the glass.

  • Morrisville will meet Fredonia for the first time this season Tuesday, hosting the Blue Devils in SUNYAC play on the Mustangs home court. Tip off is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. in Morrisville.
