Morrisville women falter in third, fall to New Paltz in road action

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball battled to a tight first half in Saturday's SUNYAC action on the road at league leading New Paltz, but faltered in the third, leading to a 66-46 Hawks win at the Hawk Center in New Paltz.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball played to a tight opening first half Saturday afternoon on the road at league leading SUNY New Paltz, but faltered in the third quarter as the Hawks captured the 66-46 victory at the Hawk Center in New Paltz.
  • Morrisville maintained close distance with the Hawks throughout the opening half, playing to a 18-16 first quarter, attacking the paint from the get-go.
  • The Mustangs maintained the pace of the Hawks in the second, before heading into the halftime break trailing 32-26.
  • Both teams struggled in the third, but the Hawks were able to hold Morrisville to just 22.2% shooting from the floor as they increased their lead to 16 using a 12-2 run midway through the frame.
  • New Paltz put the game away in the fourth, maintaining the double-digit distance.
  • Kieonna Christmas (Fultonville, N.Y.) led Morrisville with a double-double effort, netting 16 points and snagging 11 off the glass, also adding two blocked shots and six assists to her totals.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) added 12 to go along with six rebounds, while Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) chipped in seven points, adding six rebounds and three assists.
  • Hayley Dawson (Papamoa, New Zealand) contributed eight points off the bench for the Mustangs, hitting two three-pointers.

  • Morrisville will return to the court Tuesday, hosting Buffalo State in SUNYAC play. Opening tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the STUAC gymnasium.
