Morrisville men drop heartbreaker on road at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 68-67 loss to lead leading SUNY New Paltz Saturday afternoon, falling in the final seconds of Saturday's SUNYAC action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball ran out of time Saturday as they battled league leading SUNY New Paltz in a tightly contested SUNYAC match, dropping a heartbreaking 68-67 decision on the road.
  • Morrisville led 33-27 at the half, before battling back and forth in the second with the host Hawks that saw a 20-minute frame have eight ties and nine lead exchanges.
  • Tied at 63 with 1:11 to go, New Paltz took the slight two-point lead with a layup with 49 seconds to go, adding a free throw to expand the lead to three with 20 ticks remaining.
  • Morrisville countered with a free throw of their own from Yvan Fils-Aime (Dix Hills, N.Y.) at five seconds to go, making it a two-point game, before a quick foul put New Paltz back at the line, where they hit two to expand their advantage to four points.
  • In a last second effort, Morrisville's Nokio Kennedy (Yonkers, N.Y.) nailed a three to cut the lead to one, but the final buzzer went off as Morrisville ran out of time and dropped the heartbreaking decision to the Hawks.
  • The Mustangs won the battle in the paint, 34-30 and shot 49% overall throughout the contest while having five net double digits on the afternoon.
  • Fils-Aime led those efforts with 14 points, while Kareem Sanders (Schenectady, N.Y.) and CJ McCullum (Bronx, N.Y.) each chipped in 13.
  • Sanders led the efforts on the glass with six boards, also collecting two steals, assists and blocks.
  • McCullum added three assists while hitting 6-of-8 shots from the floor.
  • Jalyn Moorehead (Rochester, N.Y.) registered 10 points off the bench, adding three steals in the efforts on the afternoon.

  • Morrisville will return to the court Tuesday, hosting Buffalo State in SUNYAC play. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the STUAC gymnasium.
