Morrisville women struggle in Friday night outing

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey dropped a 5-1 decision in the second of Friday night's Mustang Cup action, falling to visiting Western New England on the Mustangs home ice in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Western New England scored twice in each the first and third periods of Friday night's Mustang Cup action in Morrisville, downing the host SUNY Morrisville women's ice hockey team by a 5-1 final.
  • WNE took their first lead of the contest just 3:16 in, with the chip on the crease before expanding their advantage to 2-0 at the end of the first with a power play score.
  • Morrisville's lone goal came in the second period at the 4:06 mark as Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ont.) deflected the blast from Zoe Leas (North Vancouver, B.C.) from the right side of the ice.
  • Bailey McMaster (Regina, Sask.) was credited with the second assist as the Mustangs pulled within one.
  • The Golden Bears regained their two goal lead 11:36 into the second, before putting the game out of reach in the third with two additional scores, including their second power play of the night.
  • J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, Sask.) recorded the loss in net, turning aside 15, before Sydney Canham (Rochester, N.Y.) appeared between the pipes in the final 18:48, recording two stops.
  • Maddie Pope led WNE with two goals on the day with teammates Alyssa Murphy, Ziya Damas and Mabel Gerard each adding one.
  • Rachael Irving recorded the win, collecting 30 saves.

  • Morrisville will host Nazareth at 12 p.m. in the consolation round of the Mustang Cup tomorrow, followed by Elmira and WNE in the championship match scheduled at 3 p.m.
