Morrisville nets three in draw with ESF

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's soccer team put three tallies up on the board but settled for a draw with visiting SUNY ESF in non-conference play Wednesday night on Drake Field in Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 3, ESF 3 (halftime: 1-1)
  • Location: Drake Field, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 0-2-2, SUNY ESF 1-0-2

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's soccer notched three scores Wednesday night on their home field in Morrisville but settled for a three-goal draw with visiting SUNY ESF in non-league action.
  • The Mustangs, who have yet to collect a win, register the 0-2-2 mark overall on the young season.
  • The first score of the night came at the 15:23 mark into the opening half as Taylor Weber chipped the ball over the head of Mustang goalkeeper Kayle Roberts (Deansboro, N.Y.) for the early 1-0 lead.
  • Ashley Seguin (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y) made a push in the offensive zone for the Mustangs in the 33rd minute and was brought down in the box by the ESF goalkeeper, awarding the hosts a penalty kick.
  • Callie LaFontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) placed the penalty ball into the lower right corner to even the score at one for the Mustangs at the 33:00 mark.
  • Early in the second half, Morrisville got a break downfield, where Seguin capitalized with the one-touch on the left wing that she buried for the 2-1 host advantage, kicking off an offensive frenzy that saw four total scores occur over a span of six minutes.
  • Jozlyn Dolan (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) fed Seguin with the thru ball for the freshman's first collegiate score.
  • The Mustang lead was short lived, however, as SUNY ESF placed the 20—yarder from the top left outside the box under the cross bar to even the contest at two at 56:31.
  • In similar fashion, the Oaks regained the lead in the 60th minute, striking from outside the box once again on the left.
  • Senior Mikayla Zotta (Schenectady, N.Y.) got a foot on the corner kick Morrisville was awarded just over a minute later, and after collecting her own blocked shot was able to put the loose ball into the back of the net to tie the contest at three.
  • Zotta's goal came at the 60:29 mark for the Mustangs.
  • Lafontaine had a chance to put the Mustangs ahead midway through the second half with her breakaway down the right wing past the goalkeeper, but an ESF defender was able to get a touch on the ball before the goal line to knock out the scoring opportunity for the hosts.
  • Hailey Simmons finished with four saves for the visitors, while Roberts collected seven stops to preserve the tie.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville returns to the field Sunday, September 22 as they host Hamilton College in non-conference play.
