Morrisville women win big in NAC opener

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team opened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon with a dominating 21-4 win over visiting University of Maine-Farmington on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter and didn't look back as they opened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a convincing 21-4 win over visiting University of Maine-Farmington Saturday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville dominated play from the opening whistle, outgaining the Beavers 32-6 in shots on goal for the day, including a 29-14 advantage in ground balls.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with six goals, adding two assists for eight points, while fellow senior Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) added a five goal performance to go along with her one assist for six points.
  • Jazlyn Leet (Richford, N.Y.) collected the hat trick with four goals on the day, while Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.) also posted four, adding an assist.
  • Jillian Dodge (Jamesville, N.Y.) added a goal and assist to her totals on the day, while Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang leaderboard with two points on her goal and assist.
  • Ingersoll also collected a team high nine draw controls and snagged eight ground balls, while causing a team best five caused turnovers.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) posted the win in net, appearing in the first half of play, before Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) appeared for the next 25 minutes to collect one stop in cage.
  • Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) finished out the final five minutes between the pipes, registering one save.
  • McDonald opened the scoring for the Mustangs just under two minutes into the first quarter, posting her first of six at the 13:04 mark.
  • Within minutes she added a second before Dodge added one on the free position with 5:41 to go.
  • Leet collected her first of the day to extend the lead to four, before McDonald connected with Baum to increase the lead to five with 1:49 to go in the first.
  • Ringgold added one on the free position with 30 seconds showing on the clock in the first quarter, and with 16 seconds remaining, Baum posted her second to send the Mustangs into the second quarter with a 7-0 lead.
  • Morrisville increased their lead to 12-0 before UMF was able to get on the board, their lone tally of the first half with 42 seconds before the break.
  • It was all the hosts in the third, as Morrisville added four more tallies off the sticks of four Mustangs, before wrapping up all scoring with five additional goals in the fourth to seal the win.

  • Morrisville returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Thomas College in their second of the weekend's NAC action.
