Morrisville drops double against Elmira

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team fell in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon to host Elmira College, battling on the road in 12-4 and 8-0 decisions in Horseheads.  
THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville softball dropped Tuesday afternoon's double-header at non-conference foe Elmira College by final scores of 12-4 and 8-0 in five innings in each contest.
  • In the first of the day's action, Morrisville rallied in the top of the fifth for four runs, but couldn't pull any closer as the Soaring Eagles scored two in the bottom of the frame to claim the 12-4 win.
  • Jessica Budd (Fairport, N.Y.) rallied the visitors with her double to right center to drive in the Mustangs first run of the contest, before Callie LaFontaine (Chaumont, N.Y.) added an RBI to her totals with a grounder to short to score Hailey Allen (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).
  • Celeste Baldwin (Bainbridge, N.Y.) kept the Mustangs going with her single down the right field line to score Emery Sawitzki (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Sophie Keehle (Conklin, N.Y.) but Elmira's defense forced Morrisville to leave two on base to end the inning.
  • Elmira posted two tallies in the bottom of the fifth to regain the eight run gap for the win.
  • Budd led the Mustangs at the plate as she went 1-for-2 for a double, alongside Sawitzki who also had a 1-for-2 plate performance.
  • Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) registered a 1-for-2 batting effort with a run scored, also stealing one.
  • Piper Kaylor (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing three earned runs while posting a strikeout.
  • Isabella Gaskins (Binghamton, N.Y.) finished the final 1.2 innings for Morrisville, allowing two earned runs in 15 batters faced.
  • In the nightcap, Elmira jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, before adding two more in each the third and fifth to secure the 8-0 victory for the day's sweep.
  • Platt registered the lone hit for Morrisville in the fourth.
  • Baldwin struck out three in the loss for the Mustangs on the mound, allowing six earned runs in 28 batters faced.
