Slow start leads to Mustang women loss

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action Monday afternoon by a 20-10 final score to host Utica University in Utica.
THE BASICS:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team got off to a slow start Monday afternoon and was unable to recover as host Utica University claimed the 20-10 non-conference win over the Mustangs in Utica.
  • Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) and Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) contributed four points to the Mustang efforts apiece, including four scores that came from McDonald.
  • Ingersoll added three goals and an assist, while collecting six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) added three points to the day, netting one and assisting two others, while fellow attack Jazlyn Leet (Richford, N.Y.) notched one goal to go along with an assist.
  • Alexa Ringgold (Bellport, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring with one tally.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) had 13 stops in the loss, before Maggie Jones (Marystown, N.L.) added one in the final five minutes of action.
  • Utica came out with the first score of the game before McDonald responded for the visitors just over five minutes in.
  • The Pioneers then went on a 5-0 run to open the gap to 6-1 with two minutes to go in the opening frame, before McDonald posted a second for the Mustangs.
  • The hosts collected one final score in the first to wrap up the opening 15 with a 7-2 lead, widening the gap to 11-4 at the half.
  • Morrisville entered the fourth trailing 16-6 before putting together a late fourth quarter push, but Utica countered with each score to keep the double-digit gap and secure the win.

  • Morrisville returns to the field April 2, traveling to Alfred University for a contest rescheduled from March 23.
