MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse team stumbled in the third quarter of Friday afternoon's season opener, allowing four unanswered Alfred University scores, as the Saxons pulled away with the 14-9 win on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Host SUNY Morrisville dropped the season opener Friday afternoon to visiting Alfred University, 14-9 on Drake Field in Morrisville.
• Morrisville collected the first two scores of the contest, the first off the stick of senior Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) at the 10:27 mark before James Graizzaro (Hillside, N.J.) added another just over a minute later.
• Alfred took advantage of the extra man opportunity netting their first at the 8:33 mark, before adding a second two minutes later to pull the contest even at two.
• Graizzaro collected his second of the contest with under five to go, before Alfred again pulled it even with a third from Owen Zimmerman on the man advantage.
• Alfred took the 4-3 lead a minute later, but Morrisville's John Carter (Kirkville, N.Y.) buried one off the feed from Kyan Dohn (East Brunswick, N.J.) for his first collegiate score and a 4-4 draw after the opening quarter.
• In the second, Alfred regained the lead at the 10:32 mark, but within minutes, Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) pulled it even at five with the tally off the pass from Dean Mohammed (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) on the crease.
• Morrisville took a one goal lead early in the third with Dohn's first collegiate score, but Alfred scored four unanswered over the final 6:09 to claim the 9-6 advantage heading into the final quarter of action.
• Two additional scores set the Mustangs back five, before Patriarco posted the man-up tally midway through, but the visitors broadened the gap to six with back-to-back scores with 6:10 to go.
• Patriarco collected his third of the contest at 5:11 before Curtis Robitaille (Endwell, N.Y.) buried the snipe to cut the lead to four, but that's as close as the Mustangs would get as the Saxons added one final score to seal the win.
• Daniel Squires (Aquebogue, N.Y.) led the efforts in the battle on the ground for Morrisville, collecting five ground balls, while Patriarco picked up four.
• Nathan Weise (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded 17 stops in the efforts between the pipes for the Mustangs.

• Morrisville returns to the field Wednesday, taking their first road trip of the 2024 season to SUNY Geneseo for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.
